Environmental Management Systems
We design and implement environmental management systems that follow the ISO 14001 structure and fit the way the organization already works.
Overview
An environmental management system (EMS) gives an organization a structured way to identify its environmental aspects, meet its compliance obligations and improve its performance over time. ISO 14001 sets out the requirements for such a system and is used by organizations of different sizes and sectors.
Lothan International supports the design and implementation of the system directly. We review existing practices, define the scope and context of the system, build the aspects and impacts register and the compliance obligations register, and prepare the procedures, forms and records the system needs. We then train internal staff and support internal audits and management review.
Organizations that choose to seek ISO 14001 certification obtain it from an accredited third-party certification body. Lothan prepares the organization for that audit and does not issue certificates.
Detailed capabilities
Initial review
Comparing existing practices with ISO 14001 requirements to define what needs to be built and what can be adapted.
Aspects and impacts
A structured method for identifying environmental aspects, assessing their significance and linking them to operational controls.
System documentation
Practical procedures, forms and records sized to the organization, limited to documents that will actually be used.
Training and awareness
Sessions for management, system coordinators and site staff on their roles and responsibilities within the system.
Internal audit support

Client benefits
- Structured controlEnvironmental aspects, obligations and controls are managed in one system with clear responsibilities.
- Continual improvementObjectives, monitoring and review cycles provide a basis for measurable improvement over time.
- Audit readinessThe organization enters a certification audit with a working system and the records to support it.
- IntegrationThe system can be aligned with existing quality or health and safety management systems where these are in place.
Regulatory context
ISO 14001 is the international standard that specifies requirements for environmental management systems. Its adoption is voluntary.
Certification to ISO 14001 is issued by accredited third-party certification bodies. Lothan International supports implementation and audit readiness and is not a certification body.
An EMS must identify and address the organization's legal obligations. In Kuwait, the general framework is the Environment Protection Law No. 42 of 2014, as amended by Law No. 99 of 2015, with the Environment Public Authority (EPA) as the competent authority.
Legal requirements depend on the activity and must be confirmed with the competent authority.
